<< Hello All,
Well I've finally turned my attention to the engine of my TR3. The bottom of
the oil pan, of course, is a rich stew of primordial gray sludge. To make
things worse, the cover plate on the pan provides for limited access to the
oil pan surface. I'm sure it's been covered before, but what are the
recommendations for the best way to clean this thing out?
Thanks!

Hi Dave,
I just did this very same thing with my TR6 oil pan. There's probably 101
different ways to deal with this, but I'll tell you how I did mine recently.
I took a roll of paper towels and scooped all the sludge out using a few at a
time, then disposing of them in a trash bag. I cleaned everything the best I
could using the paper towels, then sprayed the inside and outside with Gunk
engine cleaner. I let it soak according to the directions (15 to 30 minutes),
and used a bristle brush on some of the real grimey areas, and re-sprayed
those areas with another dose. I then rinsed with fresh water using the back
yard hose, then dried it out real good. I did this in my back yard and it
didn't seem to effect the grass at all. I was very supprised how well this
stuff cleaned!!
