Fuel Gauge Wiring

Listers,

For proper operation, a TR3 fuel gauge requires three connections: 1. The
wire to the tank sending unit,   green/black.  2. The wire to a 12 V source
via the fuse , green.  3. A good ground to the gauge case.

Item "3." can be the mechanical connection of the bracket to the bodywork
thru the dash, but it is better implemented by adding a short length of wire
to directly ground the gauge case. Crimp an eyelet on one end and place it
under the thumbscrew on the gauge mounting bracket. Connect the other end to
the wiring harness ground wire behind the instrument cluster.

Try the above solution before you go replacing a sending unit or gauge.
