Hi,

I have direct experience with the Midas system. When I took it off and put
on the TRF parts, the car ran waaaaay better. I think you hit the nail on
the head WRT the bent tubes... there seems to be a lot of retriction in the
system.

On the plus side, I got at least two free mufflers in the almost 20 years
that system was on the car... on the minus side, when I had a muffler
replaced in 1990 or so, the "brilliant technician" used a "flame wrench" to
remove the forward most muffler hanger bolt (where it attaches to the frame
up on the rear-most crossmember. Yep - he made a 1/4 inch hole into a
"slot" that's about 3/8" wide and about an inch long. I still can't figure
out why it hasn't cracked through yet, but at some point I'll pull the body
on that car an fix the crossmember.

I'll also point out that the gauge of the metal on the "out pipes" of the
muffler that Midas provided was very thick. And for you concours types, the
ends were not cut at an angle like they are supposed to be on the stock
replacements that I have bought _many times_ in the 29 years I've been
associated with TR6's... I think Midas might source some parts now, in
which case you will very likely get a Walker muffler, but I know the one I
took out was not a Walker one...

Another point in defence of Midas is that the local franchise was very
customer friendly, so I was actually a satisfied customer despite the
"flame wrench" incident.

There you have it.

See ya,
rml
