In regards to the question about Practical Classics on Spitfire Restoration
here's my 2c worth.
I am a long time owner of a Mk I Spit and own: 1) The Spitfire repair book
by Haynes 2) The original Factory service manual 3) Guide to Purchase and
DIY Restoration of Spitfire, GT6, Herald, Vitesse by Porter and Williams 4)
Practical Classics & Car Restorer on Spitfire Restoration.
For typical "repairs" I like the Haynes manual best for its easy to follow
instructions but also use the factory manual for more details where needed.
For frame off restoration and Major overhauls I like the book by Porter and
Williams best and also use the Factory Manual for certain details. The book
by Practical classics rarely gets used. Yes, it does cover body removal
(poorly), but there is nothing in the book that isn't covered better by one
of the others. Hope this helps.
