It is not safe to play with gasoline, period.

I wouldn't put it in a parts washer with any sort of pump.  Wouldn't even
put it in a parts washer.

We used Varsol (an esso product- Varnish Solvent I think) in our solvent
tank at the high school.  WD-40 is also good at cleaning (probably has
lots of detergents) but might be too expensive.

Remember, 1 litre (quart) of gasoline has about the same explosive power
as a stick of dynamite.
