I am really getting frustrated with this problem, not getting able to get my
73 TR6 started has never been a problem until I touched those ZS carbs. One of
the carbs had a torn diaphragm, so I thought it would be a good time to
rebuild them since I never touched them in the 15 years that I've owned the
car.
The plugs are still getting wet, I've tried turning the needles in the
dashpots CCW to push them all the way down (lean) and I've tried CW (rich) and
half turns everywhere in between.
I put in new points and installed Lucas Sport Coil, still no luck.
I did get the car running for a very short while with the choke open and the
accelerator floored, once started it ran a few seconds and died no matter what
I did with the accelerator pedal or the choke.
Never got it started again.
Before I rebuilt the carbs, I use to just pull the choke all the way out and
turn the key , without touching the accelerator pedal and it started easily.
I didn't forget the washer on the Grose jets, I centered the floats and don't
think they are hanging up on the inside of the bowls (will pull both carbs off
tomorrow to make sure I hear floats moving inside when shaken'). I've checked
the plugs again and again and they are definitely getting wet with gas and
carbon deposits, so I clean off and reinstall and try again with carb needles
turned another half turn leaner. I can feel the little washer on the needle
moving down as I turn the needle tool CCW. Even with the needle all the way
down, I still get wet plugs, is it possible to shut off the gas flow with the
needles all the way down? I removed the spring loaded set screw from the side
of the air valve and removed the needle. Then I inserted the needle into the
orifice with my fingers to see how much play there was between the needle and
the orifice, it seems to be pretty sloppy, is this normal?
I am getting spark at the plugs, why isn't the car starting?
What am I missing?
Help!!!!!
