I noticed when I was disassembling this gauge,
which by the way is entirely plastic including the studs and the nuts to
hold in on with, that the lamp had a little green rubber "hat" which fit
right onto the bulb

American Chrysler products used these green caps for years, at least through 
the 70's, and I think on into the 80's.  You're local junk yard probably has 
millions of them, maybe you can find some to fit your bulbs.
