Egil Kvaleberg, Shawn Loseke and Chris Lillja have written recent notes
to the list regarding TR6 rear axles, spline lock and other related
matters. Having purchased and installed a set of the CV axles for my
Six, I can confirm that:
The CV joints are indeed made by Hardy Spicer.
SNG Barratt originally promoted and sold them for Stags and IRS TRs, but
they've since reverted to dealing almost exclusively in Jaguar
parts/service. Rimmer Bros. now carries them in stock.
The claim is that these axles will last for 100K miles, and that none
have failed in racing applications in the UK. I'm about to test this
claim.
It's true that substituting Datsun parts is another remedy, and several
people have done it, but it's not likely to be cheaper by the time
you're done. It's also not likely to be reversible, whereas the CV joint
axles do not require irrevocable changes to the associated parts.
Without sounding too terribly parochial about it, there's something
about using Japanese parts on a British car that does not
seem quite right.
