Two weeks ago I encountered some transmission woes.
The 1st countershaft gear chipped a tooth. In the interim, I've been
checking out several reputable rebuilders and one suggested that I replace
my TR3 transmission with an all synchro TR4 tranny. An inviting idea indeed.
I was told that it would bolt in with no alterations. Piggott says that the
TR4 tranny is 1/2" longer but that shouldn't cause poblems. Since my car is
a post 50000 serial #, the starter would be the same. My question involves
the flywheel. Would the flywheel presently on the car be correct for this
TR4 tranny? Would the starter gear match up with the ring gear on the
flywheel? Anyone know?
