Sam,

I would highly recommend any HVLP gun.  Harbor Freight sells them for
around $80.00.  I just did my TR6 tub using this type of gun and it works
wonderfully.  I took me only a few practice runs on a spare piece of
sheetmetal to get a feel for the gun.  The HVLP delivers a lot more paint
to the surface compared to a suction type (66% vs 33%), consequently the
paint goes a lot further.  Saves a few bucks.

I also used acrylic enamel with hardner added.  Got fantastic results.  If
you don't  have access to a spray booth and proper breathing equipment, I
would stay away from the catalized stuff, too.  However, I did use a
catalized primer/surfacer - PPG's K200/201 - which works miracles.  I'll
swear by that stuff!

I'm looking forward to painting the rest of the car.  The HVLP really makes
it fun.

I plan to do some painting on my 72 Spit.  I did this kind of work 35 years
ago (amateur, not professionally) and I still have my old syphon type spray
gun.  I know it is suffering from 10 years of use and 35 years of storage.
I think I should replace it.  I am looking for recommendations.  Both type
of spray and brand.  What is the best technology for occasional home use by
a one time moderlately experienced user who has probably forgotten almost
everything?
I will probably be using acrylic enamel.  The catalized stuff scares me
just reading the fine print.
