What you need, to do is to find a car that is rust free. Look at the
mechanics only as a way of getting the price down.
Check under the carpets, look out for body work that is too smooth, or
cracking. Check behind the dash and look at the colour of the paint, if
this does not match the body colour ask. Get it HPI'ed if you are realy
serious.
Look for plugs where wax-oil has been sprayed in, they are a good
thing. Check the fit of the bonnet, and look under the car at the
chassis. Check the anti-role bar, by trying to wobbel it, if it moves
more than you would get with rubber bushes be warned.
Take a look at things like classic car magasines. Or the TSSC.
Rust is probebly the most expesive thing to fix. Check all the
suspension mount points, and look to see if it's level. Check for a
folds in any of the chassy, if even slightly ben't you should budget for
putting a new chassy on.
As for the engin, don't worry. If you can get somthing that you know
what is wrong with the engin and the owner does'nt. That way you can
get your car as a non-runner, do a simpel road-side fix, and be away.
