Thanks to everybody that provided great information. Much appreciated.
Here are my conclusions:
1. I no longer will use lead additive.
2. I am switching to silicone brake fluid, after careful draining of the
old Castrol LMA DOT-4 that I have in there now. (I have to do some work on
the system anyway).
3. Yesterday I ordered new braided stainless steel/teflon brake hoses from
Moss to replace the old rubber ones. (They're not leaking or ratty looking
-- just old).
