I agree with all the input on cost cutting. Why they never used even a
combi-instrument (as per Spridget) I can't imagine. All my cars which only
had an electric thermometer of the "too cold too hot too late" variety and
just an O/P warning light, lost them straight away over the nearest hedge.
I've put combis in all of them. On the O/P side of things, the pressure
switch on the block is still accommodated by the T piece in the fitting
kit. This sort of thing gives the originality freaks (Concours Judges) the
habdabs because it's not original - but when your engine oil pressure or
temperature is in the hands of hysterical electrical gremlins, originality
for me, comes a definite second in the order of things. If Hissing Sid (my
Mk2 GT6) was in a concours, I know it wouldn't even feature for a prize.
This is just because the extra special items like leather seats and a
genuine walnut veneer instrument panel are not original (even though they
were line fitted 'cos I had helpful friends in important places).
