The set of 8 spoke alloys I ordered, arrived Thursday from Brit Vic, so I
put the TR6 up on jack stands, pulled the wheels and headed down to the tire
shop. Got the tires mounted on the alloys and headed home to mount them. No
problem with the first two, but wheel number three had a different lug nut
setting!! Three of the alloys have a flat surface for the washer and lug nut
to tighten against. One wheel has an inverted coned surface! Upon closer
inspection this wheel also had more (or is it less?) offset. When mounted,
the upper control arm came within 1/4" of hitting the rim versus 1/2 to 5/8"
on the other three alloys. All markings, numbers etc. on the wheels and
boxes are identical. So here I am with three alloys and one steel rimmed
spare mounted on the car while I wait for Vic Brit "Inventory Control" to
get back to me. At least they agreed to send it overnight at no charge once
they figure out what went wrong. I also picked up two Cragar wheel spacers
which give an additional 1/4" of clearance for the two front wheels. They're
a perfect fit and provide a solid 6 1/2" flat surface for the wheel to mount
to. The good news is it was 75 - 80 today and the same for Sunday and
Monday. Legitimate top down weather has arrived!
