A summary of the information I have found:

1) The o-ring seal between the caliper halves IS available. TRF
carries it. I bought Beck-Arnley kit 071-1051 locally, it contains
2 o-ring seals, 4 piston seals, and 4 dust boots. $14 US.

2) DON'T take the caliper halves apart if you can avoid it. In
other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. These things are kind
of like a head-to-block joint without a gasket. You run the risk
of not getting a good seal.

3) However, if you do take them apart, the torque specs for the
bolts are:
7/16" (inside pair) 75 ft lbs.
3/8" (outside pair) 45 ft lbs.
Thanks to TRF technical assistance line.

4) Stainless steel pistons are available from TRF for $24 apiece.
A shameless, deserved advertisement for their free information.

5) Rebuilt calipers are available from Apple for $95 each. Very good
price, includes new stainless steel pistons, backed by Apples good
reputation. If I needed new pistons I would probably just buy
Apple's calipers. $190 for both sides, vice $14 for the gaskets
and $96 for the pistons. With Apples you know the cylinder bore
is good and you don't have to worry about 2) and 3) above.

Finally, thanks to this list for their assistance. TRF didn't say where
they got their torque specs but I'm not inclined to question them.
