I asked about parking brake mechanisms on the water cooled vw list (I
also own a GTI, 4 wheel disks but I don't know how the parking brake
works - never thought to look until this discussion came up on our
list).

Here is one answer. I have removed the responder's name since he posted
to the vw list only and I don't think it's relevant to identify him
here.
