This may seem obvious, but you're having trouble getting the clutch to
DISengage...if you needed a new clutch (worn disc, tired pressure plate)
then you'd be having trouble getting the clutch to ENGAGE. So I think
you're clutch is fine.
Apparently, you're looking for some lost motion somewhere, right? I'm a
little unclear as to where you found the lost motion, but if the slave
cylinder moves that drop-arm a full 5/8" then your lost motion is inside
the bellhousing, and yes, you could have a sheared taper pin or some such
thing. But, if you can't get 5/8" of movement in the drop-arm, then the
problem is in the hydraulics. Either problem is quite likely, or common.
I got the impression that your lost motion is outside the bellhousing.
Please clarify.
