Hi, James
It's by far the best thing to remove the inlet manifold. This way you can
have a good look at it all round before you drill the dreaded 'ole. it
should go in the middle of the balancer pipe between the two carbs if yours
is a twin set-up and NOT water heated!!!!!!!!!! When you've tapped the hole
for the thread, insert the union and ensure its a snug fit in the tapped
thread. Before you put it finally to bed, daub some Calor-Tite round the
union thread and screw home. You'll get Calor-Tite at most Iromongers and
certainly at your local caravan supplies shop. A very effective anti-leak
agent that is especially important on Butane/Propane gas fittings. Finally,
before you re-install the manifold, do everything you can to ensure there
are no loose filings/drilings/tappings floating around in there. If you
want the vacuum gauge for checking fuel economy, you ought to get that at
around the maximum torque figure; from memory its somewhere between
3200-3500rpm - but I could be wrong.

Good luckJohn Macartney
