As you may have guessed I have a 1500 Spitfire which is a bit of
a mongrel, there are bits from all over the place. I had a look
at my prop shaft yesterday, and failed to see a UJ.
My car when I got it had a non O/D gearbox in, with a spare
O/D gearbox, and a very nice 'J' Type. The speedo cable
is shorter than for non O/D car so I believe the car was
originally O/D.
I had a look at the propshft to see weather it was one for
an overdrive, but it has no UJ a the gear box end, it has
something a short fat tin can, with a belt round the middle.
Then a small shaft going from that to the centre of the prop shaft.
There is also a square thing that bolts onto the gear box output.
Any Ideas what this is, I presume it's fitted for the O/D, and it's
just been pulled out so that it connects with the gearbox extender?
PS. How easy is it to overhaul my "Spare" gearbox, which is in need
of an input bearing, and de-rusting in places.
