Listers,
I, like TerriAnn, had tried to stay out of this thread. I think it is
due to the fact that we three are in the same club, The Triumph Travelers
Sports Car Club out of Santa Clara, CA.
I know Wayne pretty well. I am not going to defend what I
perceive to be shady business practices any more than I would those
of someone I had no personal knowledge of. I would like to clarify a couple
of things though.
Wayne runs a relatively small business here in San Jose, CA.
At least in comparison to TRF, VB, Moss, etc. As a small business proprietor,
he probably shoulders more of the responsibility of day to day operations
than he should. As TeriAnn pointed out, if he does not pull the part himself,
you may be left up to the skills of a less knowledgable employee.
This extra responsibility probably contributes to the attitudes some
of you have encountered. I mean face it, if you were the phone orders person,
the parts puller, the technical service rep, the billing clerk, the shipping
clerk,
the purchasing dept., the maintenance crew and the CEO of your company
...would you find your patience stretched at times?
When people ask me about Wayne, I tell them to tap in to the man's
knowledge, get what you can information wise, THEN start to get pricing. Use
his
quotes and comments as a baseline and do your homework. I know I don't
usually stop with one quote, and I would never recommend anyone else do
so either. Triumphs Only DOES INDEED have quite an inventory of NOS which
he scored when a few other suppliers went belly up. He also scrounges
around at Moss damaged goods sales, as do a lot of us when the opportunity
presents itself.
If you were promised NOS, undamaged, then I would complain and
return the part. If he then offers you what you consider to be a reasonable
price for the goods, well that is business. If on the other hand, you are
totally
dissatisfied with his business approach, then by all means DON"T USE THE PLACE.
I guess what this all boils down to is...I think the MAN is a good
human,
and if you are lucky enough to catch him early in the day, on a good day, when
he's not too busy and the stars are just so....well....you will have an
experience
that will leave you truly appreciative of Wayne and the service he provides.
Just bear in mind, he is HUMAN, and as such is prone to fall from grace.
CAVEAT EMPTOR.....Enter at your own risk....and shop around !
