My Spit could stand to have its differential replaced. It whines and
backlashes a bit.
Someone nearby has a previously owned replacement candidate whose history is
unclear --
it has perhaps 60K on it.
Since I am trying to avoid spending $800 on a rebuild, some questions:
1) Is there any point in replacing a diff with 85K on it with one that
travelled only
25K fewer miles? Could the lesser-mileage diff be in much better shape?
2) Can you really tell what kind of condition a diff is in without opening it
up? To
wit: the one in my GT6 is perfect, but has only slightly less play in the prop
flange
than the Spitfire, whose diff is on the way out.
3) Time of this swap-out job? I'm guessing three hours.
