Chris,
You will need to disconnect the drive shaft either at the tranny or the
diff. If you don't you will probably destroy your tranny. My
suggestion is to jack the car's rearend up and disconnect the dif, much
easier than tearing apart the interior to get to the tranny end. Also
use a length of "baling" wire to hold the drive shaft up and away from
the dif.
As always, this JMO, and others may have an alternative solution.
