Hi Mike-

I went nearly a year trying to figure out why my 74 TR6 was missing
near idle, causing missing at takeoff. Naturally the carbs were suspect.
Found that the dashpot diaphrams had holes in them - so I rebuilt the
carbs and replaced every vacumn fitting as well. The result was
lots&lots more power but it still was missing in the same way, well
worse since I had more power at takeoff, things just got choppier.

Finally ran out of things to fix on the right side of the engine so
started looking at the left (ignition). Since the 74 has a ballsted
coil, I bypassed the ballast wire with a cliplead - the missing went
away. Bad coil. Bought a new Bosch coil and the problem with missing was
gone.

Well almost gone. With the lights on, it still missed a little bit. I
measured the plug wires (something I should have done in the first
place) and one was bad. A clue that I learned is that if you see arcing
around the distributor cap, there is probably a bad plug wire involved.

Hope something in all of this helps.

Steve.
