Pipe threads are tapered so that they do not leak under normal
conditions. You should not insert a 3/8" pipe tap into your oil pan
drain hole from the inside.
If you can not start a pipe tap the threads are really destroyed. I do
not think this is the case from Craig's description. He should be ble
to cut new /clean up the old threads using a 3/8" pipe tap with some
thread cutting oil, "Tap Magic" brand really is.
