Craig,

Take a series of taps and try them from the inside where the threads are
good to
find the right size. Then carefully re-tap the hole. If that doesn't work,
there is an oil
plug that is made of rubber with a bolt the expands the inside that works
well. You
should be able to get that at any auto parts store.
