Thanks, gang, for all of the replies!

Still uncertain whether or not the frame was sprayed before or after body
assembly - doesn't really matter though as I will "base coat" it in black
chassis paint and then top coat the entire thing in body colour before the body
goes on. And everyone agrees that the body colour was applied to the front
suspension mounting bracket, but not to any of the suspension pieces.

Although I agree that Bond would have got chassis in black from Triumph, and
that there is evidence of that on the frame of my car, it is also definite that
the (absolutely awful) orange/gold colour of my Equipe has been applied to the
frame - though there's not nearly enough left to tell if it was applied on top
of the frame rails! And I'm certain that this was done originally, not applied
later. So, it may be that Bond changed there painting practices later on? I'm
going to head to the garage tonight and take a really close look at the
underside of the various body shell pieces.

Thanks again, all, nice to see this list is still very active. There's an
early Vitesse convertible in fair condition for sale here on Vancouver Island,
if anyone is interested.

Regards
Peter Barlow

Peter,
The Herald & Spitfire family always had the chassis painted in the main
body colour, however Bonds always (unless someone can tell me otherwise) had
the chassis painted Black, this being how it was supplied (assembled?) from
Triumph. I've never owned a Bond, but a friend of mine (Guy Singleton of
Marlborough, TSSC Member no. 54!) has owned all variants, and he told me this
at a club meeting when we were discussing chassis re-finishing. I hope this
helps,
    Bill.
