Paul:

It is not often that two wrongs make a right, but this is one of those times.
If you think about it, when you turn the blade around, it is now backwards,
but it is also being driven in the reverse direction from normal, so the fan
sucks the same as before.

To better visualize this, picture leaving the fan attached to engine #1 and
rotating the entire engine 180 degrees, and placing it in front of engine #2.
The fan on the engine you just rotated will be turning in the opposite
direction from the fan on engine #2, and blowing air in the opposite
direction. If you now reverse the rotation of engine #1, the fan will now be
turning the same as the other fan, and blowing air the same way. Now, just
slip the fan of off engine #1, and onto the engine #2, and you have just what
Mike described.
