It is really an easy project to change the timing chain cover. It is best to
remove the fan, radiator and cowling first. You will, however, need a 1
13/16" socket to remove the the crankshaft pully. If you do take the cover
off, you should change the chain, tensioner and the crankshaft seal. Get a
kit from Victoria British or your favorite supplier. I changed mine because I
had a strange klunking sound in the engine when at idle. It turns out the PO
had left the locking plate off of the camshaft pully. The bolts were loose
and well worn. Close call!
