Cliff,

Your problem seems similar to the one the 2500 motor often has.
The Poms cured that with an anti-run-on valve which through a solenoid operated
off a three contact oil switch, momentarily provides vacuum the top of the HS6
float chambers, which stops fuel being inducted into the engine. Works a dream.
Without it mine runs on every time and there's definitely no carbon build up.
If your HS'6s have the vent pipe on the top of the float chamber, it mightn't
be too hard to fit something similar.

Any hints on stopping this (besides my current method of
popping the clutch :0)

1) Newly rebuilt HS6 carbs, including new throttle shafts,
   synchronized with Unysin
2) New ignition components
3) Timing set at 4 BTDC
4) Mechanical advance appears to work - timing advances
when revved and vacuum line off
5) Mechanical advance weights move freely
6) Diesels *every* time after warmed up
7) I'm running combustion chamber cleaner through with
this tank of gas, doesn't seem to be helping.
