Fellow Listers,
I had major rust holes (swiss cheese) in bottom of TR250 gas tank, it was
originally repaired by DPO (that's when I got it!). Drained and removed
tank, boiled at local radiator shop, let dry; etched interior of tank
with gas tank etch, of course. Sealed and repaired holes with "Liquid
steel" 2-part epoxy; applied in this layers, let dry and apply another
layer til satisfied with repair. Sealed interior of tank (after etching)
with Bill Hirsch's Gas Tank Seal (red label) for alcohol fuels as
directed; let air dry and redo as directed. It's been two years: no
leaks, no vapors. Just recently did same to my '72 TR6 petrol tank and
it worked great, though I used JB Weld to repair pinhole on TR6 tank. I
can recommend this method of repair; cars are still on the road with no
fumes or leaks; no signs of of flaking or seal unsealing from interior of
gas tank; fuel lines and filters very clean. Just my .02. Yours
in Triumphs, Steve
