I posted a note a few weeks ago about problems I was having with my
weber dgav carb on a spitfire. Just wanted to update and share some
info. The problem was that the main nozzle in the primary venturri was
not supplying gas causing the engine to die causing a drop in vacuum. I
originally thought it was a vacuum leak, but that was just a symptom of
the real problem. The nozzle had rotated itself around so that the
opening of the nozzle faced up instead of down. I don't really know how
this happened. I couldn't figure out what was going on when all of a
sudden the nozzle rotated itself back to the correct orientation and it
started working again. I have yet to take it apart and figure out why
this happened.
My automatic water choke was also broken, and no one wanted to sell me
the part I needed. So, with both of these problems I decided to go
ahead and buy a new carb. The real reason for this note is to let
people know about a place I found through the net that sold me a brand
spankin new 32/36 weber dgav for $177. Their web address is
http://www.webercarburetors.com/index.htm
Everyone else wanted at least $280. I didn't even try TRF or VB because
they sell the entire kit, intake manifold included. Now there were a
few pieces I needed from the old carb to put on the new one. Things
like the bracket for the throttle cable and a spacer block, but other
than that I just bolted it on and it runs beautifully. Its nice having
a choke do what its supposed to do. I considered getting the manual
choke version, but didn't want to have to drill a hole in the dash for
the control knob.
Thanks to those who responded,
