I suggest that you save yourself some trouble with your carby for now and
ring your local triumph club who should have a member that sympathises 
with you and who could lend you a proper working carby for the test, which
you give back afterwards.  Then fix your carby up afterwards without
having to worry about the deadline.  Good luck.
