Peter,

I removed mine with a pair of needle nose pliers.  The fittings were
loose enough.  Just open the pliers and stick the tips in the holes and
twist the handles.  

But I always wondered it I got the pieces tight enough on reassembly.  I
tapped the holes tangentially with a drift to set them tight.  Seems to
have worked.  At least for 30,000 miles.
