TR Group,
1. Gas in Oil: Don't know much about gas seeping thru past fuel pump
gaskets (haven't had it happen to me, yet...) but, I've had gas seep
past the carbs and into the sump! Only happened with full tank of gas?!
I parked on slight hill (nose down) at times or on level ground. Why
the seepage? I took a good look at the geometry of the fuel system and
saw that the gas tank sits highed than the carbs, gravity takes over with
a full gas tank, and gas seeks equilibrium thru the path of least
resistance-the carbs and into the oil sump! It was news to me. Now I
keep just over a half tank and fill up for week ends and outings only.
Have others noticed this? or is it my TR6? Of a figment of my
imagination?!
2. Scupper Drain Hoses: I put an extra length of hose down from the
scupper fitting about ten years ago and it's doing the job well. It's
easy to get to: take off the rear splash panel inside both front wheel
arches (4 bolts) with 1/2" socket and you'll see the short hose there.
Ensure that the hole is clear and clean of debris, attach new longer
hose, and reinstall splash panel (with new sender seal, if you remembered
to order one). Works for me.
3. FWIW: Screaming chickens invaded my gearbox and ate the release
bearing. Am tired of replacing same bi-annually (very driven car and
driver). Ordered and received TRF "Indestructible" Experimental One.
Installing with multitude of other parts at present. Will info the list
as to feel. Release bearing is indeed smoother and beefier; same for
pressure plate; disc is B&B.
See you at VTR - Ft. Worth! Yours in Triumphs, Steve Wilson
