Scions:

So, I have my brakes in pieces, replacing all the seals on the calipers,
replacing both the slave (rear-wheel) cylinders, and I have yet to, but
plan to attack the master cylinder before the end of the week. Hope to
get rid of the sponge, and get that PWDA (?) light meaning something aside
from "the battery's not dead yet".

I also have had a recurring (read: continuous) discolouration of the fluid
when I bleed the brakes (in the past) which I think is due to some crap in
the system somwhere- I've seen it in the master reservior. I read in a
recent post that on a rebuild the whole system should be cleaned before
re-charging it with new fluid, and that this should be done with petroleum
spirits.

Is pumping a few hundred ml's through the system enough, when I have the
calipers and cylinders off? (they've been cleaned now, and re-assembled)
Can I just fill the reservoir with Pet-Ether and pump the brake a few
times, until it's all through?

Then, once done, do I need to "pump" some air through, to dry it out?

Muchas Gracias.
