I used to have a problem with my spitfire mk3 getting hot and miss
firing in traffic.
I fixed the problem buy doing the following things
Installed a aluminium cooling fan
New water pump
Electric cooling fan in front of the radiator (still keeping the
original fan)
Adjustable cut in for the fan (set to just over 1/2 scale)
Made aluminium heat shields for the carbuettas

The electric fan tends to only cut in when the car is left sitting in
traffic in summer, and the temperature needle only ever moves 1/16 inch
from 1/2 scale.

Now I have no problems even though I have a dubious radiator, no
cardboard shields, high temp thermostat and running lean.

I think being able to adjust the cut in temperature of the fans helps a
lot.
