Hello Jan-Ivar,
after a quick check in the Richard Langworth and Graham Robson
book "Triumph Cars, The complete 75-year history" it seems to
me Triumph Cycle Co. Ltd did not produce any four wheelers before
the purchase of the Dawson Car Company of Clay Lane, Stoke in 1921.
The Dawson Car was produced between 1919 and 1921. Though outwardly
resembling the Triumph Car to come there was little resemblance
inside the car. The first Triumph Automobile was announced to the
public in April of 1923 - the Triumph 10/20. Produced and sold
during 1923 to 1926.
It can be seen in the above mentioned book. Both sectional views
of the engine and an line art drawing of the bare chassis with
fittings. The gearbox was mounted separate from the engine on a sub-
frame in th middle of the chassis.
1925 came the 13/35 model, the first British car to be offered with
hydraulic brakes.
And then it went on all the way to the poor mishap Triumph Acclaim
leaving us 60 years later in 1983...
