front suspensions.  What is this person wondering about?

Mark - it could be that the author was visualizing typical coil over shock 
units on some race cars where the spring and shock unit are integral, and 
the springs are narrow enough that they look like they would fit inside of a 
stock Spitfire spring.  I have personally seen some really small coil over 
shock units that in fact look like they "might" fit, but I have to agree 
with you - why in the world would one want to do that?
