AMCO front badge bars were always and available accessory (even in
1972...actually could be bought new from AMCO thru late 1979!!) except in
1969 (late and 70) when they were fitted at the docks by AMCO personnel. Saw
the original BL agreement and order form from the now deceased owner of AMCO.
Many of them had fine scratches on them as new. This was from their being
slid on the dock floor of the yard where they were installed. The installers
had little time and got tired walking the line "assembly" line. Also why they
were all installed slightly differently. Done "by site" and with a marking
pen as a guide. Only the front hole was marked. The others were traced from
the bar as, of course, each bar was slightly different too. I have 7 of them
in the garage and they are all different. 3 are NOS parts. Never installed.
You will also find the bumpers had a different crown from one car to
another..that is, the slope of the top surface of the bumper varies. This was
true from lot- to-lot of bumpers...cannot be correlated...and is true with
the repro bumpers sold today. Which is why your overider (badge bar) doesn't
always fit your "new" bumper.
He was a guest speaker once at the club meeting (SCTOA) in So Cal and had
pictures of lots full of new 69/70 TR6's having these installed at port of
entry west coast. Never thought to ask if the same was done east coast POE in
Jersey. They were not installed on the 1971 and later cars at the port but
many dealers installed anyway to raise the price. Love them or hate them. My
'70 still has the originals. Second owner...love them.
Of course we all know why they installed thesquare little reflectors below
the tailight on the body on the 1970's right? I have the documentation but
let's see a few good guesses first. Smile....
