John,
I am in process of putting a TR3B back in service after some 20 years of
sleep. I had the exact problem you describe. Seems the flex hose that
attaches to the slave cylinder collapsed internally. I replaced the hose
and the clutch works like a charm.
As to cleaning the system, if the age of the seals in the master and
slave cylinders is unknown, rebuild them. The kits are cheap, and the
job can be done in a day. Be sure to clean the reservior first, then
flush with lots of brake fluid.
But your immediate problem is your old flex hose.
