Wayne - don't know about the TR6s, but I installed 3 inch wide racing style
lap belts with lever release and two inch wide shoulder harness in my early
Spit. They look great (IMHO) and mounted to the stock seat belt anchors
with snap connectors that came with the belts. The shoulder harness did
require that I drill a single hole in the rear parcel shelf to run the eye
bolt through, but nothing too dramatic. Got mine in black, but you can get
them in many other colors. Simpson makes them, along with other suppliers.
Check your local hot rod shop. Disadvantage is they are big and a little
clumsy, and the buckle is heavy. You can also get 2 inch lap belts, too.
You can go all out for a 5 point harness, but frankly the thought of my
crotch as the only thing stopping me from sliding under the dash in a crash
makes me think I'd prefer the consequences of the crash than a belt crushing
my .............
Original? No. Safer than stock 2 inch lap belts? Probably, but who knows.
Figure about $140 for a pair with shoulder harnesses.
