Fellow Shipwrights,
Just though I might let ya'll know how the new Spitfire MKIV project is
going. We purchased it back in mid March ($450). Over the last few weeks
Julie and I had unbolted anything that had a thread. We removed the engine,
gearbox, wiring, and all the glass. Looking on the inside of the doors you
could see those worms of bondo squishing through big dents so we went to
Classic &Unique and bought some good used doors (2 for $80).
At the present time it is sitting at the media blasters ($475) getting
stripped inside and out. Both sides of the bonnet, all brackets, hinges, and
doors. So far it has been a rust free project (it was originally from
Baskersfield, CA). It was supposed to be back today but now it is looking
like Monday. Next week we are hoping to get it over to a paint ship for a
little body fairing and paint.
I'll try and keep you updated with the future progress and hopelly have a
final cost that will keep me from being commited. You have to be careful
with this stuff or it can be like they say in Sailing." Its like tearing up
$100 in a cold shower".
What fun,
Richard Ceraldi
