Well, theoretically, it could be, but it would be a lot more work to do it
that way, since it entails taking the control head apart and putting it back
together. In order to replace the switch, you are talking about replacing
the "control head" which is available from MOSS or TRF for around $100 or
$150. The new control head comes with new wiring, and good instructions for
replacing the wiring. It's actually pretty easy to do. Also, in my
experience, the problem is about 10 times more likely to be caused by the
wiring being abraded inside the column (especially where it exits the column)
than by the switch itself being "bad." I have made my own wiring harnesses
for the control head, and installed them in the control head, but to do so,
you have to dismantle the control head, and it's one of those things where
there are little springs and pieces that fly apart when you dismantle it.
IMHO, putting it back together again so that it works right is a heck of a
lot harder than replacing the wiring in the column.
