While not a single wire conversion, I found the Bosch alternator from a Ford Fiesta to be an unbelievably easy swap. If it was designed for the TR-6 it couldn't be easier. The connectors fit, the brackets fit. The only real change is putting on a slightly longer belt, which isn't absolutely necessary. I ended up with a charging system that can keep up with the car's needs even at idle with lights, wipers, heater and radio going. My local alternator shop even took my tired Lucas unit as the core.
