Since buying my 74 Spitfire about 2 months ago I have learned a tremendous
amount about this car (particularly the electrics) thanks to many of the
people on this list. Every thing on the car is now working and it runs
excellently, though I have a wheel bearing end play adjustment problem due
to new grease seals.

There is one part on this car that remains a mystery to me. What is the
purpose/function of the Thermostatic Vacuum Switch? This switch is part of
the EGR system and is located on the lower radiator hose. It has numerous
vacuum lines running to/from it to the carb, EGR valve and the 3 vapor
separators.

This switch is not shown, nor even mentioned, in either the Factory Repair
Operations Manual or the Haynes manual. The only reference I've found for
it is an obscure one in a Chiltons Manual.
