Well, the Mk I Spit is coming along nicely - body and paint work is almost
done :^ )
Motor is almost done, too, at least the internals. Transmission is done,
and I even took the time (which my neighbor thinks was a total waste of time
because it will be under the car) to polish the aluminum top cover,
tailshaft and shift rail support to a super high shine - WOW! AWESOME!
Sprayed a little Nyalic on to keep it shiny too.
Frame and suspension are done, but I can't get her off the sawhorses because
the rear hubs aren't on because I am still waiting for the damn return
springs I ordered a long time ago. I figure why put the hub on as it will
only be in my way when I put the springs on later. At the fronts, I am
still waiting for replacement brake caliper pistons from John Kipping Spares
in the U.K. (on back order for 6 weeks - AAAGGGHHH! I can't wait that
long). So it sits on the sawhorses, all covered up and pretty.
Gotta run the brake and fuel lines this weekend (and am seriously thinking
of running a VERY clean and stealthy nitrous oxide line from the trunk to
the engine bay for later installation of NO2 bottle if I choose to do so).
I'll keep y'all posted.
On the non-LBC front, big news. Broke down and bought a '64 Porsche 356C
coupe for the missus. She adores it. It's a runner with minimal rust,
strong brakes, solid engine, ratty interior and a truly butt ugly brown
paint job. That will eventually go, to be replaced with Porsche silver.
She has to sit on 2 pillows to see over the dash now, as the driver's seat
is a little broken down. We'll drive it for a year or so, then, like the
Spit, full restoration (AAGGHH!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$ - anything to keep the
missus happy)
Anyways, been having so much fun on this list that I decided to subscribe to
the PorscheFans-356 list. WHAT A JOKE! Traffic is non-existent, so I
included the 911 list too. MY GOD, what a bunch of pansy-assed, clean
fingernails, pressed trousers, too much money for their own good, don't know
how to open the gas cap, "I don't want to get dirty" bunch of ditz-brains.
HA! Triumph owners could run circles around them when it comes to
cooperation, courtesy, technical knowledge, sense of humor and just plain
old sense of fun. So, it's adios to that list. I'll stick to Triumph
owners any day. Please just don't stone me if we bring both the Spit and
the Porsche to the next Triumphest, okay?
