I personally had the opportunity to drive a Bugeye with a Mustang 5.0.  When
the autobox hit second gear I gave up (it was kind of like an F14 leaving the
Carl Vinson).  To survive to age 43, I have learned to live by my brains and
not my balls.  

Just rebuild the Spit 4 banger and have fun.   There is a lot you can do to
it that will make it a handful to drive without the mess of swapping.
