Michael,

I don't have a GT-6, I have a Spitfire. I am the original owner, so have seen
and kept the car fairly original. My guess is the two cars are similar in
this respect, so thought I'd offer some info.
Thanks for the info, yes many parts are the same on the GT6 and the spit. It
seems to me that I remember a plastic coating on my original tunnel but that
has long gone. The new tunnel has nothing, I'm going to get some kind of
insulation which has been suggested by some other list members and stick it on
with the spray on 3M type contact cement. Listening to the engine right now is
good since it is so new, another 100 miles to 500. I just love driving it
again. I've had it for 25 years.

There is insulation on the inside (transmission side) of the tunnel cover. It
looks like fiberglass, it is completely wrapped in a plastic covering. I
don't recall exactly how it is held on to there, but it has stayed many
years, even through some rough handling through my teens and early twenties
years when I didn't care. It performs the dual purpose of reducing noise and
heat. I understand the amount of heat transfer into the car's interior is
greatly increased without that insulation. Some in my Triumph club say it is
actually hotter with the new materials compared to the old fibreboard. The
insulation covers most of the transmission from the front to the gear shift,
and frame to frame.

Do you have a Rimmer Bros. catalog? There aren't too many on the GT-6 that I'm
aware of, but if you don't have one of these, I'll send you their address for
you to get one of theirs. They have great quality and very good service.

Please send the address, I don't have this catalog. I have had very good luck
with Victoria British in Kansas for parts. I even got a rear end body panel
from them. No problem. There are some parts I am looking for. Can't seem to
find a turn signal switch, and with winter coming its getting too cool and
sometimes wet to stick your arm out the window all of the time. Especially
when its wet and some truck is coming the other way and a wave of water comes
over the car. No good.
I like the GT-6, but the prospect of parts availability has kept me away. Am I
mistaken, or do you have to hunt to find stuff? I should talk, I have a
Stag, but the parts are readily available in the UK. Maybe the same for the
GT-6?

There are a couple of British car junk-yards here in the Bay Area. If you are
looking for something, I could call them for you. Just E-mail me, or I could
give you their number and you could call them. Whatever works.

I am also looking for seat foams, and seats if they have any that are any good.
I suppose that's not too likely, maybe Rimmer has that.

Hope this is of some use, write back if you have any questions.

Thanks again for the info, Happy driving.
