  I agree that it's questionable whether WD-40 really destroys rubber.  The
company claims it does not, FWIW.  I also question it's usefulness in the
current situation though.  WD-40 is *not* advertised as a lubricant, but as
a degreaser/rust protectant.  Are you sure it's silicon based?
