Hi all-
Desperately trying to avoid studying for my PhD exams, I have been trying
to come up with projects. Here's a low-impact one...can anyone tell me if
there is some sort of FAQ collected out there on substituting OEM parts with
equivalent or at least functionally equivalent 'modern' parts? By modern, I
mean parts that can be found in a local auto parts store without getting a
blank look from the salesfolk. I just saw Tom Gentry's description of Steve
Toth's Bosch alternator swap, and it came to me how nice it would be to have
a printout of substitution parts so that if, while traveling, something were
to...heresy...go *wrong*, I might avail myself of a local NAPA or whatever
without having to wait for TRF and possibly pay premiums for TRF and their ilk,
at least until back at home base.
In any event, if there is no such guide available, I hereby volunteer to
collect information and produce one, and place it on my TR6 website
(http://www.mit.edu/people/zimerman/tr6.html - note new shorter URL)
for all to utilize.
So, if you have a tale of a handy part swap, equivalent oil filter, useable
Fo*d widget or whatever, send it to me at zimerman@mit.edu and put the
phrase 'TR6 parts' in the subject line. I'll massage all submissions into
some sort of readable html and slap it up. Or, if this has all been done,
which it probably has, write me a verbal slap upside the head and drop me the
reference.

Many thanks, all-
